As I walked through the Clothing Bank a few weeks ago, Rodrigo, a kind, middle-aged man warmly greeted me. He was smiling ear-to-ear; clearly very happy to be there. He tells me he normally doesn’t get to shop with his wife because he works full-time, but today he has off. Curious, I asked him about his job. In doing so, I learned a lot more about Rodrigo.
His wife is recovering from a recent stroke and has aphasia which makes it difficult for her to work. Rodrigo also just took in his daughter and her three children. Although, he’s got a great job that he loves, he now has a household of six that he’s struggling to maintain.
“I’m getting by”, he said. “Shopping here helps my wife feel better. It also helps my daughter keep her three growing boys clothed until she can find work.”
